I dreamed I was strolling in Ancient Athens which for me means that all is right in my world.
This is because last night we spent hours in Lincoln Center, which IS America's Athens equivalent. An open grand agora of ideas and culture that makes me proud of the entire human race. I never feel the difference of humans vs. animals as keenly as when I hang out in Lincoln Center, a culmination of Western Civilization.
1) 530 to 630 -- strolling, idling, chatting, watching the people and rapidly transforming architecture, including the new green ramp near the Henry Moore sculpture pool. Contemplating the exciting addition to Juilliard school, the 65 Cafe.
2) 630-730 -- Digging on the Summer Swing dance lessons. They're $18 if you can believe it but it costs nada to spy on the lessons and dig on the band (last night: Loser's Lounge with an all disco program -- Do the Hustle!).
3) 730-930 -- The proudest thing in the city for me: Bill T Jones Dance Company, which this week is doing an awesome tribute to Abraham Lincoln: Fondly Do We Hope...Fervently Do We Pray, which was commissioned and premiered last year at Ravinia in Illinois.
Seeing America and humanity at a pinnacle like that was well worth the 25 dollar ticket. Fondly... is there again tonight and tomorrow if you're in the city. If not, this stuff doesn't seem to appear on PBS so I don't think it will be easy to see unfortunately. The Rose Center at Columbus Circle was an awesome tiny venue to see the dance in.
