We woke up this morning to a strong swimming pool smell inside our house. This is surprising since we live almost a mile from the Hudson River. If we're smelling it at 95 Cabrini Blvd, NY 10033, I think all of Manhattan is going to smell chlorine today along the Hudson.
The smell is coming from a triathalon planned for today.
It was all over the radio yesterday that a broken sewer main north of Yonkers near Croton on Harmon in Westchester County was threatening to cancel a national event , the 3000-contestant National Ironman Contest that starts at 6:50 AM this morning over at the NJ Palisades with a Hudson River 2 mile swim.
The chlorine smell is because they treated the sewage with chlorine as it overflowed into the Hudson. But judging by the smell on our street here, the entire Hudson is as chlorinated as a big pool, for miles. I wonder what that will do to the ecosystem.
