Four students are facing suspension and one student is facing expulsion for cheating on a pro forma exam: the Regents final exam, a test that most Stuyvesant students pass easily anyway.
I predict in ten years there will be no statewide test here in New York. The curriculum induced by the Regents is awful anyway. Technology will wash away the possibility of a statewide test unless, like the Red Queen, technological countermeasures are invested in, e.g. personalized randomized tests for each student, money that could be better spent elsewhere. It depends on how conservative the Regents board is. I have a hunch the Regents board *loves* the Regents test and as an organization they would rather grow than cease to exist. Look for an expensive expansion of the whole process before giving up by 2020.
