A good poetry-generation technique for the unambitious writer is to pull random handfuls of word magnets from your pocket as you trek a landscape, installing them on available metal surfaces. It is lazy art but it also honors serendipity, long-ago established as legitimate by artists like the choreographer Merce Cunningham or the Action Expressionist painters like Helen Frankenthaller! ; P
The little magnets seem to make location-specific works, at least in New York City. A half hour stroll last week, with very few magnets in my pocket generated the following couplets.
