The other night a friend was drinking a cocktail that tasted like marshmallows. Actually it tasted like Key Lime Pie. What I wanted to know is what liquid thing can a bartender pour into a glass of lime liquor that will add a taste of marshmallow/meringue? The answer is vanilla liquor with (here's the tricky, subtle part) just a drop of pineapple. The result is alchemy because in this case 1 + 2 did not equal 3. vanilla + pineapple (trace) did not add to the sum of their parts but rather made a convincing meringue!
On a related note, does anyone know what real world smell corresponds to the smell of Murphy's Oil Soap? It's pleasant and distinctive but what the heck is it? My guess is it smells like geraniums -- sort of. Do you know?
